Overview

In 2001, the 1,200-acre Navy Yard underwent a major upgrade while taking another step towards becoming an important regional, mixed-use business complex. After the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (“PIDC”) and Philadelphia Authority for Industrial Development (“PAID”) acquired the property’s utility system from the US Navy, they contracted with Duke Energy Generation Services (“DEGS”) to operate, manage, maintain and jointly upgrade the facilities’ electric and steam systems. As part of its responsibilities, DEGS oversees system upgrades and manages the distribution of electricity and steam at the complex.
