Overview

Duke Energy Generation Services was awarded an exclusive franchise to provide district energy services within the central business district of Cincinnati, Ohio. District energy is an efficient and environmentally sound method of heating and cooling buildings by producing steam, hot water or chilled water at a central plant.

The current project focuses on district cooling services, with the flexibility to incorporate district heating services in later phases. District energy services allows for lower construction and operating costs for new buildings, while allowing older buildings to remain competitive by avoiding the expense of replacing aging cooling equipment. The higher efficiencies inherent in a centralized energy system also result in a substantial reduction in emissions caused by individual cooling systems.
