Overview

Duke Energy Generation Services (DEGS) and SUEZ Energy, in a joint venture, entered into 20-year contract with Lyondell to supply steam, electricity and other utility services at the company’s Equistar manufacturing plant in Tuscola, Ill. The Equistar site produces ethyl alcohol, diethyl ether and specialty polymers used in many health care and personal product applications such as cough suppressants and analgesics.

The project provided Equistar with integrated technology solutions to lower energy costs, increase efficiency and reduce air emissions. Equistar was also able to realize immediate cost savings on utility services and avoid significant future capital costs.
